When we got back to the house after dinner, Madelyn broke
out the Bubble Gun (something Daddy bought for her last summer). Madelyn found
some quick entertainment as we all sat on the balcony and watched the sunset.

Coaster Ride to Pizza Port
One of our very favorite places to eat in Southern California is Pizza Port!
Madelyn was anxious to ride the Coaster during this trip, and although the very short ride was quite expensive at $8 round trip (for a three-minute ride), we decided that since Madelyn was still free, one of us could go with her so she could get her yearly ride. We made it a "girl" trip where she and I had a fun, quick trip to Carlsbad Village.
We met up with the rest of the gang, and enjoyed a WONDERFUL dinner of pizza and specially-brewed beer!

California Dreamin'
This summer's trip to California couldn't have come at a more perfect time. Work has been crazy, and the weather has been worse. We were ready for some serious R&R by the beach for nine. whole. days.
We found a beach house to rent in Oceanside, and were excited when our good friends, the Schoens, decided to join us. Renting online has always proven to be successful for us, but until we arrive I typically have a tiny bit of anxiety about how everything will pan out. Fortunately, this year's rental was as good as always. Actually, it is much better. Our beach house is separated from the beach only by a small bluff. The backyard is a sandy oasis with a fire pit and hammock. When I peeked outside I knew this was exactly what we all needed!

Papa's New Toy
We were all very excited to give Papa his gift because we all got together and surprised him with a new iPad. Okay, well, truth be known, Grammy was the biggest contributor and the rest of us just chipped in to help cover the cost. But nonetheless, we were all extremely excited for him to open his present!

Jumpin’ Junebugs
While Auntie Kim, Mac, and Ethan were in town the weather was hot, hot, hot! Fortunately, we have a fun trampoline arena, Jumpstreet, where they could have some fun indoors to beat the heat.

American Girl: Madelyn
A while ago, we bought Madelyn an American Girl play set to use with her dolls. She loves to read one of the books that came with it. The book has lots of pictures, and Madelyn likes to sift through the pages and dream about which doll she wants next.
Since Auntie Kim was in town, Madelyn asked if she would do her hair like one of the dolls. Auntie Kim did an amazing job, don't you think?!
