Happy Halloween!

Well, Grammy did it again! She made the perfect Halloween costume at Madelyn’s request.

Madelyn watched the Wizard of Oz for the first time in the spring and decided right then and there she wanted to be Dorothy for Halloween. Now, I told her we’d keep that in mind thinking she’ll certainly change her mind over the next EIGHT MONTHS. And probably a couple times, too. But, not Madelyn. She knew exactly what she wanted, and it all came down to the toes! I am pretty certain she really just wanted an excuse to get some red sparkly shoes. And it worked! The shoes were the perfect complement to the perfect costume!

Halloween Candy: Take 3

School Halloween Party

Madelyn has been so excited for her school Halloween party, and today was the day! Her class did all sorts of crafts, and decorated cookies. They had lots of fun treats, of course, laced with extra sugar!

Each child was asked to bring a carved pumpkin. This is always Chris’s job, well because it’s messy, and I’m not all that great with knives. He asked Madelyn what she wanted carved on her pumpkin so he could find a pattern. Her answer shocked me because I thought for sure she’d pick Hello Kitty, or a princess, or a crown, or anything else girly. But nope. She chose a vampire. And Daddy couldn’t have been more proud! Finally a scary Halloween thing!

Tomorrow the kids get to go trick-or-treating all around the high school classrooms! This kid sure is going to be overloaded with candy!

Pumpkin Patch

The COOP kids got to go on their very first field trip today! They visited Tolmachoff Farms where they got to pick their own vegetables, including a pumpkin!

Beside the pumpkin, Madelyn picked a radish, a cucumber, and a zucchini! YUM! I can’t wait to fry up that zucchini because it looks absolutely perfect!



Homecoming

COOP has proved to be the happiest place on Earth (or on campus as they like to say). Today Madelyn got to participate in many of the high school’s Homecoming events. First she got to be part of the “royalty” at the assembly and even did the Chicken Dance. Oh, how fun! She was super excited and practiced diligently every night. I think she was most excited to be partnered with Luke, one of her new BFFs - not too be outshined by Lily, of course. (Madelyn likes to say she has a girl BFF and a boy BFF.)

After the assembly, they changed into their COOP shirts and got to ride on the homecoming floats! Madelyn thought this was also cool. She loved that the floats rode right past her cousin’s school!

Bike Ride

The weather has finally gotten cool enough (who says that in October?) to play outside more. Madelyn recently started to show an interest in riding her bike, so today was the perfect opportunity to do that!

Fall Break

The school district has implemented a Fall Break into the yearly calendar, and we took full advantage of it! We started our day by meeting two of our besties for pedicures. Abbi had a coupon for a place we’d never been, but as it turned out, they had little spa chairs for kids. Madelyn was totally in her element! I mean seriously. A pedi chair just her size, with an attached DVD player (Rapunzel was playing), a peanut butter pretzel snack (supplied by Mommy), and the works on her toe nails!

After pedicures, we headed out to lunch at Corner Bakery. Madelyn and Emma were especially excited about their cookies!

Then we had one last stop at Trader Joe’s. I think Madelyn would have a hard time picking her favorite part of the day, but I feel pretty confident that this might be it! When I told her she could push a cart that was just for her she practically did a cartwheel. It had a little sign on a tall pole attached to the cart. It read: “Customer in Training.” Madelyn literally walked around the store saying, “Excuse me. Customer in training.” I think the sign should have read: “WATCH OUT! Small child pushing cart.”
