First Day of COOP

I just don't know how it's possible that I'm sitting here beginning to write about Madelyn's first day at COOP. Honestly, where does the time go?

We've been talking about COOP (Child Oriented Occupational Program), oh gosh, probably since the day preschool got out last May. I think that was her first question, "What school will I be at next time?" So we were honest with her because she had made some good little friends, and we wanted her to adjust to the idea of not being at that school again.

This past week was especially hard because she was super excited. Like, bouncing-off-the-walls excited! And last night was the most difficult trying to get her to fall asleep. Her mind kept wandering, and her mouth kept blabbering. But I couldn't blame her. I remember how excited my sisters and I would get the night before the first day of school. I was always curious about what the teacher would be like and what the classroom would look like. So I got it. And I tolerated all the nonsense talk for about 30 minutes (which is a long time considering she's typically asleep - sound asleep - 5 minutes after her head hits the pillow). I had to remind myself it's moments like these that I won't be able to have forever, so I need to enjoy them. That actually makes me a little teary-eyed typing it.

This morning Madelyn tip-toed into my room while I was still in bed. (I do not offer the best model of a morning routine. Never have. Never will.) She had her big, bright typical smile and asked if I was ready to take her to COOP. Seriously child, I'm still in bed. HA!

Fortunately, Chris and I have been working on having her get her breakfast ready all by herself. We put milk into a smaller container that she can pour from, and she can pretty much take it from there. I had some fresh fruit cut up for her, so she was set until I had time to get myself ready.

Before we headed out the door, I told Madelyn we needed to take a picture.

Madelyn: "Why, Momma?"
Me: "Because that's what parents do on the first day of school."
Madelyn: "Oh, okay."

Here's my favorite shot from the morning. It's my favorite because it was followed by several other "poses" from our favorite Top Model. I honestly don't know where she gets it from, but I swear she's such a poser.

Work has been really busy, and definitely crazy, but I promised myself today would NOT be a day I would work late, even for 10 minutes. I was so excited to pick Madelyn up to see how her first day was. Unfortunately, Daddy had to work late this time, but that gave me an opportunity to have some girl time with Madi, and was it ever fun!

We stopped at 5 & Diner for an early dinner where she proceeded to tell me all about her day. Boy, did we laugh! She has grown into such a funny little girl. Our waitress even sat at our table with us for a little bit so she could hear some of Madelyn's stories. Too cute.

She had many favorites from the day: First and foremost, popsicles for snack, then, in no particular order, Show and Tell (she brought Sally, her panda from the San Diego Zoo), arts and crafts, oh and "ALL those high school teachers!" She said, "Mommy, you're never gunna believe it. I have so many teachers, you couldn't even count them!" I asked her if she thought they were nice and she said, "They are the nicest. EVER!" She somehow believes she's going on a field trip to the zoo tomorrow, but I had to break the news that it wasn't likely. First of all, it's too hot, and secondly, I did not sign a permission slip. Her only response to that was, "Why didn't you sign the slip?" sigh

Hopefully those super-cool teachers will set her straight in the morning. ;)

I am sure there will be more updates as we make our way through the year. If her excitement after the first day is any indication of the rest of the year, I think we're in great shape! YAY COOP!
