Day two proved to be a little more of a challenge. Everyone woke up early, but someone wasn't in a very good mood. And I won't mention names, but Chris and I felt fantastic! ;)
This kind of morning is exactly why we chose to get a five-day pass. We didn't feel like we were missing out on a lot because we knew we still had three more days after today. With that in mind, we decided that we should hang out at the condo until she swung herself into a better mood.
Thanks to a much needed nap, we didn't end up getting to Disneyland until about 1:30 pm today, but that still gave us 7 hours at the park. The skies were gloomy, but fortunately, we missed a 60-minute rain shower while we were waiting out the tantrum (things always happen the way they are supposed to happen). But the day ended up being wonderful, even though the clouds stuck around. The park was not very crowded, so that made walking around and soaking everything in quite relaxing.
We had lots of fun adventures today. We explored Tarzan's tree house, which I fondly remember as the Swiss Family Robinson tree house when I was a kid. I was a little sad at first seeing the change, but I suppose kids today would wonder who the heck the Robinson's were. ;) I do actually appreciate the many updates to the park. I failed to mention yesterday that one of the first rides we went on was It's a Small World. Many of you know that hearing those words make me a little nauseous. But, I have to admit, I was quite thrilled to see all the new additions. They have added many of the different movie characters into the "old-school" theme, and don't tell anyone, but I loved it. It gave me something to look for throughout the ride. And Madelyn loved it, too!
We even met up with a few fun characters around Critter Country. We missed Pooh and Tigger by just a few short minutes, but we'll keep our eyes open for them during the rest of our visit. Rabbit was funny, and oh-so cuddly. And Eeyore, he was not as excitable, but just a soft and cuddly.
Of course, there's always room for ice cream, even when the high only hits 59. Silly girl.
The carousel was a lot of fun, too. We all picked a horse and rode together, racing to the finish line.
We were surprised that we couldn't convince Madelyn to go on some of the rides we thought would be no-brainers... Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, etc. She really didn't like that she couldn't SEE the ride before getting on it. I can't say that I blame her, but I do wish we could have convinced her. I think she would really enjoy them. Fortunately, we have a few days to keep trying. ;)
Ironically, she did go on Big Thunder Mountain, the same ride I remember thinking was "crazy" as a teenager. Go figure.
Finally, we wrapped up the day with another round of Mickey Mouse's parade. Boy, she sure does love it! And she continues to be the hit of the sidewalk with her high-pitched squeals when she sees her favorite characters. Everyone offers her their seat to get a better view, and are typically surprised when she says, "No, thank you" because she'd rather stand and dance. ;)
