4-Year Update

 

Madelyn had her four-year check-up with Dr. Magalnick, and we are happy to report she's doing very well. She continues to be in the same percentiles for weight and height as always. She is 40.75 inches tall, which puts her in the 75th percentile for height, and 30.5 pounds, putting her in the 10th percentile for weight. During this visit we got a little chart that projected her height and weight if she continues to grow as she has in the last four year (which has been pretty consistent). According to this chart, she should be approximately 5'6" by the time she's 18, and right around 115 pounds. It will be interesting to see if this ends up being accurate or not. 

Dr. Magalnick asked Madelyn to complete a few tasks. Some of them included holding up her right hand, touching her right hand to her left knee, touching her left hand to her right ear, hopping on one foot, etc. She completed each task willingly and perfectly. He smiled and said those were all things kids should be able to do by the end of kindergarten, so she is ahead of the game. I attribute a lot of these skills to preschool and dance class. She has grown so much in the last 5 months!

He also wanted to do hearing and vision tests. It was cute when the nurse came in to get her saying, "It's time to check how well you can hear and see," to which Madelyn replied, "Why? I can see?" HA! Smarty pants. 

Both tests came back perfect. Although, it was difficult at first to get an accurate reading for the hearing test because her ears were too small for the device. The nurse had to pull her ear out a bit for it to fit so Madelyn could actually hear the sounds. But once she figured that out it went very well. Perfect hearing and perfect vision.

We rounded out the visit with 4 shots. This is never anyone's favorite part and Madelyn cried after the first shot and into the next three, but the nurse was fast, so they were over before we knew it. Whew! We told her she did well, and deserved a chocolate shake. That helped dry up the tears pretty quickly. :) Dr. Magalnick also mentioned that she was caught up with shots for kindergarten so hopefully that's it for a couple years.
