Our church is doing a very special food drive for families who won't have enough to eat over Christmas Break. The idea was centered around the staggering statistics that 1 in 4 children live in poverty, and Arizona has the 5th highest poverty rate in the nation. As a matter of fact, many kids only get to eat at school, and with school being out of session for two weeks over the holidays, they may not get enough to eat. So CCV put together the Family 2 Family drive, which will help to ensure that 4,400 families have enough to eat during this time.
We thought this would be a great opportunity to remind Madelyn about the importance of helping others. She is such a loving and extremely thoughtful little girl anyway, but I think these kinds of conversations are especially important to have with her.
She loves shopping, so she was actually quite excited to head out to the grocery store to help find the items. And of course, Mr. Beary got to come along, too! So off we went to WinCo....
Each box had to be filled with specific items:
Madelyn was a great help at finding and putting items in the cart. She and Mr. Beary helped to make this a quick and painless trip to the store (unlike Madelyn, I do not enjoy shopping)!
